Tracking, Environmental Awareness & Medicinal Plant Class

Gain an increased awareness of your environment while learning to identify plants with medicinal qualities right here in our local Florida flora!

Our morning tracking and awareness session will help you see more in nature and everyday life. We will teach you how to spot and identify tracks, read their direction of travel, sex, weight, and much much more. Through these techniques you will learn to not only see more details in nature and interpret what they are but gain an acute sense of what is going on in the environment around you. Finally we will tie all these skills together with some games and drills to bring it all together. Come join us for a hard to forget day in the Florida woods!

If you are new to Florida or a longtime resident our medicinal plants of Florida session will bring you to a new level of appreciation for the amazing plants of this state. As we hike through Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in the afternoon part of the class we will identify and teach you about the medicinal quality’s of local native flora. We will also cover some common edible varieties and species with multiple primitive uses.

This exciting class can be attended either as a single class or broken into morning and afternoon classes. We will meet at 8:45 AM at the Chassahowitzka WMA parking lot. Please dress appropriately for a day in the field. Bring a water jug, pen and notepad for the fieldwork and pack a simple picnic/field lunch for the break between the two classes. Tracking and awareness will run from 9AM to noon followed by a one hour break for lunch and then Florida medicinal plants will run from 1 to 3 PM. If you are arriving for the afternoon session please arrive by 12:45.
