SUMMARY:Earthskill Gathering with camping

The land we steward is a long-leaf pine\, turkey oak ecosystem with a diversity of native species alongside our orchard and food forest. \nWe will spend the weekend sharing earth skills\, connection with nature\, and building community. New presenters are being added\, and there will be informal skill sharing and networking going on all weekend - the below calendar is just a sample! \nTopics covered: \n• Edible and medicinal plant identification - learn edibles and medicinal and how to use them.\n• Mushrooms - foraging and growing\n• Nature awareness and tracking skills\n• Permaculture skills\n• Food preservation\n• Seed and plant swap\n• Community building\n• Water and well care\n• Tree care\n• Animal husbandry \nand more \n  \n  \nEvent Schedule \nSaturday AM \n10 am - Diane Willis - Plants\, We will walk around and learn how to identify plants using simple characters like leaf shape and arrangement\, and flower and fruit structures. We will identify and discuss how to use edible and medicinal weeds and native plants that we find. I will show you my favorite books and give you the names of my favorite websites. \n\n11 am - Koreen Brennan - We’ll do a farm walk and discuss the ways we are providing abundance for wildlife and for humans. We’ll discuss great plants for bees and other useful native species as well as plants in our food forest.\n  \nSaturday PM \n1pm - Diane Willis - Water harvesting\, we will look for signs of water movement on the landscape and learn how to identify areas where erosion and infiltration are occurring. I will offer tips on where and how to design a water harvesting plan based on what you observe in the landscape. I will talk about what I learned from a water harvesting certification course I took in Arizona. \n2pm Mycol Stevens - Will share his broad knowledge and also we'll sharpen some tools. \n3pm A Panel - learn earthskills wisdom from multiple experts\, dive deep into your own interests in an open session. \n \nSunday AM \n10am - Rebecca Krassnowski - animal expert. Nutrition and care for animals\, from pigs to rehabilitating a dying horse. Special treat: Meet the horse\, Cora\, now recovered and a working animal! \n\nAshley Davis - Ashley Davis will teach you to preserve nature's bounty with an in depth canning demonstration. She has worked on farms throughout the south and has worked hard to make this year's kitchen garden possible. You will learn to pickle your garden veggies\, create jelly from native Florida beauty berries\, and make it last for up to a year or more! Stock your pantry with food grown at home. \n\nSteve Szmidt - Water catchment\, well pump liabilities and solutions\, solar. \n  \nSunday PM \nSteven Turner - Tree care and trimming. \nKoreen Brennan - Reading the landscape - How much can you understand about a piece of land in a single walk about it? A lot! Explore the farm while learning pattern language and other skills that allow you to read any landscape. \nPlant and seed swap again! \n  \nSigning Up \nOur goal is to create a community setting whereby people with earthskill can meet each other and share their skills with others of like mind\, learn from each other\, get to know each other\, and create stronger communities in our bio-regions. \nBecause we want to keep this as accessible as possible\, we are asking for donations and suggesting a sliding scale amount. Suggested donations range from $20-50\, which help us to cover costs of preparing the site\, organizing and hosting the event. \nTo keep our costs low\, we will ask that you bring your own food and eating utensils to this event. We will have facilities to warm or cook it. \nDate: Nov 4-5\, 2023\nTime:  \n Sat - 10 AM to 5 PM\, with evening activities and fire\n Sun - 10 AM to 3 PM\nWhere: 11251 Salina St\, Brooksville\, FL 34614\nRSVP: Please go here! \nCome one day or both days! We will have some camping spots available. Please let us know ahead of time if you intend to camp. Outdoor toilets and shower facilities available. \nWe will have a plant and goods swap at 5 PM on Saturday. Please bring plants\, seeds\, or other goods that you’d like to share at our “really free market” on Saturday. \nIf you have an earthskill or other idea you’d like to share\, please let us know!

SUMMARY:Online Permaculture Design Course July 16
DESCRIPTION:Many requests have come in asking us to offer an online version from people whose schedules don’t match up with our in-person courses or who prefer to study online. This course can be studied at your own pace\, with a focus on your own site design. Creating the opportunity for a participatory and hands-on experience is important to us\, so we include practical exercises that you perform on your own site. In addition we will have live Q and A sessions and personal mentoring with instructors and you will be able to share your experience with instructors and other students via photos\, essays or videos. \nWe have added some exciting learning modules to the online version and other extras\, including units with experts covering various topics. The course will address strategies for drylands\, temperate\, tropical and other climates based on the significant knowledge and experience of our instructors working in those climates and will also have bonus sections focused specifically on Florida/subtropical climate because of how unique the ecosystem is in Florida. Many of these techniques are very useful in multiple climates and we explain how and why. \nStudents will have an opportunity to self-test their knowledge\, to join discussion groups with other students\, to participate in question and answer sessions on Zoom (online video conference software) with instructors\, and to get feedback from a personal mentor. In addition there are in-person modules for those who want that\, and special sessions we normally can’t offer in person because of time and site constraints. We feel this exceeds the learning experience from an in-person course alone. \nSunday the 16th is a welcome meeting for Q&A at 1pm (EST)\, the first Zoom call is on the 18th at 7pm and once a month for a year\, and is recorded. \nSee the full description... \nYou can sign up here.

SUMMARY:Jan 26\, Webinar: Design Your Life to Be Resilient Inside & Out
DESCRIPTION:Permaculture principles are most often seen applied in the external parts of our lives\, in gardens and food systems. Does permaculture offer wisdom for our inner world? What if we applied permaculture to our personal lives\, like our health\, intellectual and emotional life\, career\, relationships\, and more?\n \nJoin permaculturist Jen Andreani as she shares her journey of applying permaculture philosophy to every area of her life. In 2020 Jen found herself in lockdown in the middle of a global pandemic\, physically cut off from the many community and social connections she had built for mutual aid. She realized she had focused on the resilience of her garden\, social networks\, and external world to meet her needs\, but suddenly without them\, she found herself stressed\, anxious\, and depressed. She paused to envision and completely redesign her life inside and out using permaculture and within a couple of months she went from burned out to flourishing. She'll introduce the framework she used to increase her inner resilience and ability to quickly bounce back and become strong\, healthy\, and successful no matter what comes her way.\n \n\n\nBIO: Jen Andreani is on a mission to help people and the planet flourish.\n\nJen is a certified permaculture designer\, Lifebook Leader\, resilience coach\, yoga teacher\, and lifelong learner. Using an intuitive\, whole-systems thinking approach\, Jen helps people apply intentional\, holistic design philosophy to their lives and organizations. She has several years of experience as a transformational facilitator in business\, nonprofit\, and community settings. \nWith strengths such as innovation\, creativity\, and the ability to relate new ideas in unique ways\, Jen helps her clients come up with personalized\, effective\, and integrative strategies to reach their goals and live their ideal life. She empowers people with the tools to be strong and resilient in all areas of life\, not just one or two. \nJen is grateful to have been featured in the 2021 award-winning film\, "Coming Home: Natural Living in a Modern World" at the Sunshine City Film Festival. We'll share some exciting developments for growers and farmers in the area\, give you a short tour of our farm (which will be in winter mode)\, share a meal and get to know each other around a fire. \n4 PM for tour and short briefing\, 5 PM celebration starts \n\n\nBring a dish! Bring something locally grown or with locally grown ingredients if you can! We're looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. Bring a drum or instrument if you wish.

SUMMARY:Graduation Reunion 2021
DESCRIPTION:We are going to have the GP graduates event on the first weekend of December (4 & 5). \nThis weekend opened up and it is a time when most of you could come. It is also slightly less likely to be cold that weekend than later. \nIt will be the entire weekend\, but we'll focus on Saturday for those who can only come one day. We would like your input on co-creation (see below)! \nYou can camp on-site\, we have compost toilets and showers (which most of you have seen). Please\, bring your own food\, dishes\, pots and pans\, ice\, and prepare to be fully self-sufficient. We won't have room to store cold foods for everybody. We will have an outdoor stove\, coffee and tea maker\, things like that. If you want to bring enough to share with some others\, please do! We'll have a central area for camping stoves\, etc. We plan on having a fire Saturday evening in the fire pit. \nWe would really appreciate some volunteers to help with things such as the compost toilets\, and cleaning up after the event. We can also use some people who could come up a day or two early to help us set up. That will help us want to do this and other events regularly (as much as we love to see you guys\, cleaning up after a crowd can be quite a task)! \nIf you have a special skill you'd like to share\, let us know.\nIf you have ideas for group actions\, let us know.\nWe want to make this a co-create! \nWe are really excited to see you again and catch up!! And have ya'll meet those you haven't met yet\, network\, etc. \nAnd please feel free to bring others with you\, the vast majority of those who responded to our survey were fine with bringing others. You can bring kids but will have to be fully responsible for them. We won't have any capacity to watch out for them or help watch them\, and there are aspects of our space that are not kid friendly. All we ask is that you let me know that you plan on coming and how many in your party? \n** Use my email (steve at growpermaculture dot com) to communicate on this subject\, and if you want to coordinate with others I will forward emails as needed to those of you who volunteer to help. \n** If you can help out please notify me via email and I'll do the coordinating.

SUMMARY:Earthskill Gathering
DESCRIPTION:We are launching the first in a series of Earthskills gatherings at Our Permaculture Farm in Brooksville\, Florida. \nWe will spend the weekend sharing skills from tracking to canning to wild edibles to caring for animals\, growing food ecologically\, and many other skills. All activities will be outdoors. \nOur goal is to create a community setting whereby people with earthskills can meet each other and share their skills with others of like mind\, learn from each other\, get to know each other\, and create stronger communities in our bioregions. \nThis event is open to everybody\, but we expect it mostly to be attended by people in West Central Florida. \nBecause we want to keep this as accessible as possible\, we are asking for donations and suggest a sliding scale amount. Suggested donations range from $25-50\, which help us to cover costs of preparing the site\, organizing and hosting the event. \nTo keep our costs low\, we will ask that you bring your own food and eating utensils to this event. We will have facilities to warm it. We will have some camping spots available. Please let us know ahead of time if you intend to camp.
